PIERREPONTMemorial services for 85 year old Joseph H. Brockway, 5330 State Highway 56, will be announced at a later date, to be held in the spring at St. Patricks Church in Colton. There will be no calling hours and burial will be held in the Holy Name Cemetery, Tupper Lake, NY. Mr. Brockway passed away early Saturday morning at his home.
Joe is survived by a son, Terry and Donna Brockway, Colton; three daughters, Susan and Mac Corwine, Colton; Roxann and Tom DiFloria, Texas; Kelly and Michael Caney, Kentucky; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Joe is also survived by his brother Walter Brockway, Burke, NY; his sister Pauline Griffin, Central Square and many nieces and nephews. Joe was pre-deceased by his parents, along with several brother and sisters, his first wife Beatrice and his second wife, Dorothy; his daughter Vicki Anne and a grandson, Randy Brockway.
Born in Huntington, Quebec, Canada on December 22, 1926 to the late Arthur and Leah Matte Brockway, he married Beatrice Miller, who passed away in 1950. Joe later married Dorothy Laramay on May 2, 1953. Dorothy passed away on May 9, 2008. Joe was a self-employed carpenter, who also worked for various construction firms throughout the years. He also owned and operated Joes Bait and Tackle Shop on Pine Street in Potsdam for many years. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with family and friends. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Memorial Donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or to Charity Care, c/o Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
