NORWOODFuneral services for 100 year old Virginia D. Ginny Johnson, 4 New Street, Norwood, will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with Pastor Donna Campbell presiding. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 3 p.m. Burial will be held in Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam. Mrs. Johnson passed away early Thursday morning at her home.
Virginia is survived by a son, Douglas and Marian Johnson, Winthrop ; her daughter Sharon Whittier, Norwood; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and her two sisters, Hope Griffiths, Voorheesville, NY and Betty Elliott, Conneaut, Ohio. Virginia was pre-deceased by her husband, a son David Johnson, her brother George Dewey and a sister Susan Nichols.
Born in Louisville, NY on September 1, 1911 to the late Almon J. and Sarah Benson Dewey, she graduated from Massena High School and Canton ATC as Dietician. She worked at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital as a dietician until her marriage to Ralph B. Johnson on July 29, 1938. Ralph passed away on June 9, 1993. Virginia was very active in the Norwood United Methodist Church as well as in the community itself. Virginia was a member of the United Methodist Womens Group in Norwood and enjoyed spending time with her family. Memorial Donations can be made to the Norwood United Methodist Church.
