My Dear Hayes Family,
I remember Eleanor most of all as my 6th grade teacher at Norfolk Elementary School, but also as the Aunt of dear friends, Danny and Christie, and Celia Hayes.
My heart is with you today as you say good bye. The Hayes family has always been my second family. My mother Rita West and Sally Hayes have been friends for many years. God bless you all. She was a dear lady, and will be missed.

It's amazing how things happen sometimes. I read that Eleanor had passed, and planned to send a card with our condolences. Just now as I readied to write the card, I thought about going online. I see that my thoughts are with you just as the service is beginning.
Natalie, Kurt, Brent, Chris, William--and other family members: Please accept our sincere sympathy in Eleanor's passing. Bob says, "SHE WAS A GOOD TEACHER!" She taught him in fourth grade, and she got stuck with him again for sixth! Eleanor was a good friend in Fortnightly Club and was well loved. I believe I may have friends here at the same condo in New Smyrna Beach where she used to stay.
Eleanor leaves a fine family. Our thoughts and sympathy are with you.

Dear Natalie
My deepest sympathies to you and your family. Although she was not my teacher I remember her well at the elementary school in Norfolk. Through the years it was always nice to run into her as she always had a great smile to share. She made a mark on this earth in her time here and will be missed. Obviously she was not just a good teacher but great mom too as is evidenced by the people in your family. God Bless.

Mrs. Hayes (Eleanor) was my sixth grade teacher ... back about 1951/52. She was one of the best teachers and nicest people I've ever encountered. I don't even remember the names of some of my teachers but I remembered her name and recognized her picture in the paper.
My condolences for the loss of this very special lady. I'll bet you'll hear from many of her former students.
May you find comfort at this difficult time and be reunited in the next life.

To the Family of Eleanor Hayes -
In todays Courier-Observer I read that calling hours are today and the funeral tomorrow. Both times I have obligations that I cannot change. I feel very badly about this as I always enjoyed Eleanor's "upbeat" personality when we were in teaching at the same time at Norwood-Norfolk.
My thoughts will be with you as many people remember Eleanor's life.

Natalie, I was so sad to hear the news this morning or Eleanor's passing. Of course she was my godmother, but she was also a great favorite of mine among Mom and Dad's friends. It was such a treat to visit Shoney and Eleanor at camp because they were just fun people to be around no matter what age we were. She will be missed by us all. Kay
