SARASOTA, FL— Funeral services for 92 year old Helen A. Harper, Sarasota, and formerly of Norwood will be held Friday at 12 noon with Rev. David Pritchard, pastor of the Norwood United Methodist Church, presiding. Burial will be held in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours will be held Friday from 10 am until the time of the funeral. Mrs. Harper passed Tuesday at the Tarpon Point Nursing Home, Sarasota, FL. Helen is survived by her son, Robert and Judy Harper, Norwood and Sarasota, FL., four grandchildren; Robert and Yvonne Harper, Sarasota; Jayson Harper, Sarasota; Renee Mora, Bradenton, FL; Sherman and Laura Harper, Sarasota and four great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her brother Charles Kohla. Born in Long Island on August 4, 1918 to the late Charles H. and Meta Ewald Kohla, she married Alfred Harper on September 11, 1937. He passed away on April 22, 1980. She started working for Bell Telephone Company in 1939 and was one of the first of fourteen long distance operators to run the Vada vacuum tube machines in the United States. She later worked for Empsalls Department Store in Watertown.
