NORFOLK—Funeral services with military honors for 86 year old Bernard W. “Cub” Purvis will be held Monday at 11 am at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. Andrew Amyot, pastor, presiding. Burial will be held in the Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk. Friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Mr. Purvis passed away late Thursday evening at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena. Mr. Purvis is survived by his wife Elizabeth, Norfolk; two sons, Donald and Carolyn Purvis, Norfolk and Randy and Lisa Purvis, Fairport, NY and his daughter-in-law, Diane Purvis, Norwood. Bernard has nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by three sons, Bernard, Thomas and John and a sister Agnes Bregg. Born in Norfolk on January 12, 1924 to the late Ira and Martha Ryan Purvis, he married Elizabeth Simons on March 6, 1948. He worked for General Motors in Massena in the Maintenance Department. He was a member of the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk, the UAW in Massena, the Norfolk American Legion, a life member of the VFW in Massena, the Norfolk Rescue Squad and a member of the Norfolk Fire Department for 68 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Memorial donations can be made to the Norfolk Fire Department or to the Norfolk Rescue Squad.
