Obituary of Elva Ellen Hutchinson

Elva Ellen Dunning Hutchinson, age 101, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010, at her home.
Elva was born May 13, 1909, in South Colton, N.Y. She was a beloved daughter of Asa Andrew and Hattie Minerva Lamb Dunning. She had seven siblings, Flora, Anna, Dortha, Frank, Lewis, Harold and Garland.
Elva fell in love with and married Maurice Howard Hutchinson on Aug. 31, 1929, in Scotia, NY. They soon moved to South Colton where they purchased a home on Coldbrook Drive. It is there they raised their three children and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They enjoyed traveling to visit with family. They also greatly enjoyed their cabin in the woods in Tupper Lake, N.Y.
Elva was lively and active with her family and community. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, cooking, visiting and bird watching. This tiny, little woman will be warmly remembered as a desert connoisseur. She was known for her graciousness and compassion towards others. She also kept a fantastic sense of humor until the very end.
Elva read her scriptures faithfully each day until she was no longer able. At the age of 99, Elva joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In April of 1989, Elva was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice. She was also preceded in death by her seven siblings.
Survivors include her children, Barbara (Jerry) Swibold of Baton Rouge, La., Betty (Larry) Schaat of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and John (Bonnie) Hutchinson of McGraw, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great grandchildren a large posterity of which she was very proud.
Elvas family wishes to thank the staff of Turtle and Crane Assisted Living in Idaho Falls for their kindness and excellent care. They also wish to thank Idaho Home Health and Hospice for their devoted care.
Family graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, June 28, at the South Colton Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 21 Castle Drive, followed by a family gathering that evening, both in Potsdam, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Elvas name to the South Colton Cemetery for grounds upkeep or to your local hospice organization.
