Obituary of Thomas G. McKinley

COLTON—Funeral services for 73 year old Thomas G. McKinley, 119 Windmill Road, Colton, will be held Thursday at 10 am at St. Paul’s Church in South Colton with Rev. Bryan Stitt, pastor, presiding. Calling hours will be held at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mr. McKinley passed away Saturday in Burlington, VT. at the Fletcher-Allen Medical Center. Thomas is survived by his wife Mary, Colton; four sons, T. Daniel (Sally) McKinley, Potsdam; Robert and Griselda McKinley, Glendale, Arizona; Matthew J. and Nancy McKinley, Potsdam; Andrew G. and Tracy McKinley, Colton, his two daughters, Mrs. Jeff Mary J. James, Canton and Mrs. Patrick Karen E. O’Gorman, Potsdam, fifteen grandchildren, a brother Michael (Carol) McKinley, Andover, NY and his sisters Shelia McKinley, Rochester and Mrs. Kurt Mary Ann Hoyer, West Henrietta, NY. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Joseph F., James M. and John E. Born in Hornell, NY on September 25, 1939 to Francis and Mary Ellen Gavin McKinley. He married Mary McNelis on October 21, 1961. He served in the Army from 1955-1958. His knowledge of fund accounting in higher education was exceptional as he worked in higher education as a controller for 28 years, retiring from Greenfield Community College in Greenfield, Massachusetts. He was a past member of the National Assoc. of College and University Business Officers, the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers; the Junior Chamber of Commerce where he received the SPOKE award in Rochester, NY, the Rotary Club in Greenfield, MA, and the Birch Brook Hunting Club in Colton and the Joe Indian Hunting Club in Parishville. He was a current member of the Elks Lodge in Potsdam, the VFW in Canton and the AMVETS in Colton and Parishville. He had the deepest respect for the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross. He rang the bell at Christmas time for the Salvation Army. He enjoyed hunting and being involved with his grandchildren in all their sports activities.
