NORFOLK – A Celebration of Life gathering for Lee E. Mittelstaedt, 69 a resident of Norfolk, NY, will be held at a later date to be announced. Lee passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT with family at her side. Lee is survived by her mother, Lois Mittelstaedt, Graham, WA, a brother Paul (Elizabeth) Mittelstaedt Jr., Graham, WA and sister Laurie (Alf) Maki, Darby, MT; her beloved nieces Katelin, Samantha, Dana and Kirsten. She was preceded in death by her father Paul Mittelstaedt Sr. in 1997 and her grandparents. Born in Schenectady, NY to Paul E. and Lois M. Hughes Mittelstaedt Sr. on May 23, 1954, Lee graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School, Class of 1972 and continued her education, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland in 1976 and her Masters' degree from St. Lawrence University in 1981. Lee taught Physical Education for 34 years at Norwood-Norfolk Central School mainly in the elementary school retiring in 2010. Lee has been as a substitute teacher at NNCS since her retirement. Lee liked to stay active, teaching exercise classes, she was an avid walker, enjoyed skiing and played volleyball and pickleball often. She was involved in K-Kids, the Norwood Kiwanis, a member of the Norfolk Library Board, NYS AHPERD as well as many other organizations. If you went to the concerts in the Park in Norwood, you would see Lee making French Fries, serving burgers and hot dogs at the Kiwanis concession stand.
