Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada on April 3, 1935 to the late Alexander and Clephire Bouvier Gagner, Roland graduated from Massena Central School and Canton ATC. Roland worked in the Meter and Test Department for Niagara Mohawk for over 35 years, retiring in 1991. Roland served as a past president of the Lions Club and was a member of the Elks Club and also served in the United States Army. There was no game or sport Roland couldn't master, he thoroughly enjoyed winning, one of his favorite quotes was, "you know what Gagner means in French, it means to win" and that is what he did at everything. Roland was a key figure on his High School Football team at Massena Central as well helping lead his High School Hockey team to go undefeated throughout his high school year's, serving as Captain of his team. He was also a referee for numerous years at many levels, and a JV High School coach. Roland also led a Norfolk minor hockey team to a state title. Roland was an avid follower of the NY Rangers hockey team where he almost never missed a game, hence where he earned the nickname to some as Ranger Ron. During retirement, Roland also did his best to master the game of golf, he loved fishing and mentored many in his time. He created the annual fishing event "The Higley Cup" with his grandsons, and never lost of course. Roland loved playing cards, especially with his beloved wife, daily throughout his retirement. He was a competitor no matter the game, a pool and horseshoe master. He truly loved beating his son at any game they played. His positive nature and kind, gentle loving way of life will be remembered by his family and those that knew him.
