NORFOLK – A Mass of Christian Burial for Jean L. LaPlante, 89, a resident of 247 Andrew's Street, Massena and formerly of Norfolk, will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. Andrew Amyot presiding and Rev. Raymond Moreau concelebrating. Burial will be held in the Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. Mrs. LaPlante passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Massena with family at her side, after a brief stay. Jean is survived by a son, David R. and Tammy LaPlante, Roseville, MI; her three daughters, Anne and Joe Chism, Hannawa Falls; Susan and Paul Haggett, Massena and Jane and Scott Northrup, Liverpool; her beloved grandchildren, Sara and Jesse Fregoe, Emily and Jason Coudray, Shay and Robert Silver, Jasmine and Matthew Schock, Zoe LaPlante, Prudence and Rich Bechard, Megan and Marshall Hughes, Lindsey and Jeremy Haggett-Warners, Zachary and Andrea Northrup, Elizabeth "Libby" Northrup and her fiancé Robert Jones and Nicholas Northrup; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald LaRue, Massena as well as several nieces and nephews. Jean was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Royal, a grandson Emerson LaPlante and two brothers, Kenneth and Joseph LaRue. Born in Norwood, NY on March 19, 1934 to the late Julius and Evelyn Emburey LaRue, Jean graduated from Norwood High School and married Royal Edward LaPlante on August 25, 1956. Royal later passed away on June 10, 1995. Jean worked as a secretary at Norwood-Norfolk Central School for several years before retiring and previously worked at ALCOA in Massena and for the SOAR Program for seniors thru SUNY Potsdam. Jean was a devoted Christian, attending the Church of the Visitation and was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved to be involved in community programs and assisted with the Norfolk American Legion Auxiliary, the Jolly Agers of Norfolk and Raymondville, the Massena Seniors and the Massena Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In her free time, Jean enjoyed knitting, sewing, traveling to see shows and various forms of entertainment, but found her most enjoyment came from spending time with her family.
