COLTON—Memorial Services for 67 year old Michael D. Sevey, a resident of Colton, will be held in the spring of 2018. There will be no services at this time. Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna; a daughter, Tanya Sevey; a son, Michael "Ty" and his wife Mindy and his two beloved grandchildren Eva and Mya Sevey, all of Colton, NY; a sister Donna Fuller, Baldwinsville; four step-brothers, Vranous Jones, Texas; Shaun Jones, South Carolina; Gary Griffin, Syracuse and Harold Griffin, Fulton; his two step-sisters, Colleen Fluty, Arizona and Diane Brown, Syracuse as well as several nieces and nephews. Mike was pre-deceased by his father, Bud Sevey and his wife Violet Jones Sevey; his mother and her husband Madeline and Harold Griffin; a step-sister, Gale McDaniel and a step-brother, Gary Jones. Born in Tupper Lake, NY on August 15, 1950 to Duane "Bud" Sevey and Madeline Ray, Mike enjoyed the outdoors and growing up at Sevey's Corners. He graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School in 1968. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam Conflict from 1968-1972. Mike was an Aviation Electronics Technician serving aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Forrestal. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his comrades from Attack Squadron VA42, attending Navy Reunions in Virginia and North Carolina. Mike graduated from Canton ATC with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1987. He worked as an alcohol therapy assistant at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, with the St. Lawrence County Probation Department and as a counselor at Rose Hill in Massena, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program for teens with addiction problems. He has enjoyed his many close friends in the Group and lived "One Day at a Time". On June 26, 1971, Mike married his childhood sweetheart, Donna Hammond of Colton and together they have enjoyed exploring the adventures of life for over 50 years. He enjoyed working with wood and in 1999, built the home he and Donna had dreamed of. Mike loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing with his buddies and was known as the Scrabble Champion in family competitions. Mike also leaves behind his beloved animal companions, adopted from the Potsdam Animal Shelter; Memorial Donations in Mike's memory can be made to that organization.
