NORWOOD - John H. Hicks, of 373 Lakeshore Drive, Norwood, NY, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born on March 17, 1951, in Wichita, Kansas, he grew up in Norfolk, NY, where he attended Norwood-Norfolk High School, graduating in 1969. Shortly after graduation, John began his career at Reynolds Metals, working in the Pot-rooms until his retirement in 2006. He was deeply committed to his fellow workers and was very active in the Union throughout his career, holding several leadership positions including Vice-President and President. Even during the turbulent time of switching to Alcoa as a new owner of the smelter.

John had a true gift for hospitality. He loved to cook and entertain, often preparing huge meals to share with friends and family and hosting holiday gatherings that became cherished traditions. He shared this love of cooking, gardening, and feeding wildlife of all kinds with his life partner, David Sherwood, by his side every step of the way. John also loved going out to eat, particularly to the Lobster House, where he delighted in "treating" everyone to a great meal. John had a huge heart and a deep love for helping others, a generosity that his friends and family knew very well.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alma "Darlene" (Wiley) Bond and Walter "Bungy" Bond, and his life partner, David Sherwood. John and David had many cherished memories together, including trips to New York City and Colorado via a train ride.

He is survived by his brother, Michael Hicks, and his partner, Barbara Robbins; his sister, Teresa "Terrie" Taylor (Darren); many nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews whom he treated like his own grandkids. In keeping with John's wishes, there will be no formal services, private burial will be held in the Bixby Cemetery, Norfolk. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
