SOUTH COLTON - Funeral services for Renace A. "Rennie" Ames, 84, a resident of 4263 State Rt. 56, South Colton, will be held at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Burial will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Colton, following the services. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Rennie passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, May 13, 2026 at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus after a brief stay. Rennie is survived by her son, Daniel P. Ames and his companion Donna McGinnis, Norwood; her daughter, Denise Folsom and her fiance Cory Perrault, Canton; her three beloved grandchildren, Mallory and Keegan "Buck" Kwetcian, Jacob and Emma Folsom and Austin and Cassidy Ames and four great-grandchildren. Rennie is also survived by her brother, William and Doris LaPoint, Heuvelton as well as several nieces and nephews. Rennie was pre-deceased by her parents Gerald and Theresa, her husband Wayne, sisters Dona Regan and Sharon Phillips.
Born in Potsdam, NY on September 16, 1941 to the late Gerald and Theresa Pearl LaPoint, Rennie grew up as a child in West Parishville. She attended a one room schoolhouse in West Parishville until 4th grade and then moved to Parishville in 1950, graduating from Parishville-Hopkinton Central School, Class of 1960. She worked at the P&C Grocery Store until she married Wayne P. Ames on April 15, 1967. Wayne passed away on April 23, 2017. Rennie was a devoted homemaker, staying home and raising her children and babysitting the Wood children from down the road. Their family became a second family to Rennie and Wayne. Rennie was an accomplished seamstress and had a passion for sewing. She worked at the Carol Lee Shop in Potsdam for many years and then started her own business from home, designing and making formal wear and alterations for over 35 years. She made several wedding party dresses and formal wear over the years as well as making Hunters Dry Butt seats, knitting many Christmas stockings and Care Bear Teddy Bears and also made formal wear and gowns for the President Clinton Ball. Rennie was an associate member of the Colton Fire Department and Honorary member of the Racquette Valley Fish and Game Club and in her spare time, Rennie enjoyed playing cards and games, birdwatching, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and teaching sewing and knitting to anyone that wanted to learn.
