NORWOOD - Dennis J. Oakes, 72, a resident of 3485 County Rt. 47, Norwood, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026 at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY with family at his side. Dennis is survived by his wife of 22 years, Marianne, Norwood; a son, Josh and Vania Oakes, two granddaughters, Sabrina and Savannah Oakes, all of Denver CO; two step-children, Ben Noreau and his companion Dellie Whittier, Watertown and Erin Yezzo, Milford, NH; three step-grandsons, John, Ian and his twin brother Eric Noreau, his brother, Robert "Bob" and Kathy Oakes, Norwood and a sister-in-law, Lisa Oakes, Winthrop as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Dennis was pre-deceased by his parents James and Frances and his brother Thomas.

Born on May 10, 1953 in Potsdam, NY to the late James and Frances Allen Oakes Jr., Dennis graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School, Class of 1971. Dennis earned a Bachelor's Degree at SUNY Potsdam in 1975. Dennis then served with the U.S. Air Force from 1975-1983 until his honorable discharge. After his service to his country, Dennis furthered his education, earning a Master's Degree in Geography from the University of Oregon. He worked as a Cartographer for many years for the Oregon Water Resources Department in Salem, Oregon. He retired and moved back home and married Marianne Kish Noreau on April 26, 2003. Together they raised pomeranian show dogs and enjoyed traveling to different shows with them. Dennis was also an avid reader and sports fan, watching the Montreal Canadiens and watching his alma mater University of Oregon Ducks football, basketball and track and field teams.
