NORFOLK - Robert G. LaBarge, 67, of Norfolk, NY, passed away at his home on Friday, February 13th, from natural causes.
Though his passing leaves a deep void, the joy, laughter, and love he brought into the world will continue to live on in all who knew him.
Robert was born on December 31st, 1958, in Syracuse, NY, to Gerald and Margret Lynch LaBarge. He grew up in Manlius, NY, where he attended Fayetteville-Manlius High School.
From a young age, Robert had a natural curiosity and appreciation for beautiful and meaningful things — qualities that would later define both his career and his passions.
For 40 years, Robert proudly owned and operated Argents Jewelry in downtown Potsdam. His shop was more than a business; it was a reflection of his personality — warm, welcoming, and full of treasures waiting to be discovered.
He was an avid jewelry and antique collector who found genuine joy in researching, buying, and selling unique pieces. Robert had an eye for history and craftsmanship, and he loved sharing the stories behind the items he found. Customers quickly became friends, drawn not only to his expertise but to his quick wit and happy-go-lucky spirit.
Robert truly enjoyed life to the fullest. He had a natural gift for conversation and connection. Whether he was discussing the details of a rare collectible, reminiscing about the past, or simply sharing a laugh, he made those around him feel valued and welcomed. He approached life with optimism and resilience, choosing joy whenever possible.
Above all, Robert cherished his family. He is survived by his three children: Elizabeth L. L. Paige and her husband Spencer Paige; Schuyler LaBarge; and Jorjienne LaBarge MacDonnell and her husband, Cooper MacDonnell. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Loxlin Paige, Azel Paige, and Maverick MacDonnell, who brought him immeasurable happiness. He is also survived by his siblings Jeffery LaBarge, Patty LaBarge Pfister and Thomas LaBarge.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Linda LaBarge Talbert and David LaBarge.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, customers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His memory will live on in the stories he told, the treasures he passed along, and the love he leaves within us.
