NORWOOD— Mary Lou Cutler, 83, a resident of Morgan St, Norwood, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, after a brief stay at the North Country Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Massena. Funeral services will be held in the spring at the Norwood United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Riverside Cemetery, Norwood. Family and friends will be invited to join in a celebration of Life honoring her memory, with the exact date to be announced later.
Mary Lou was born in Potsdam, NY on May 1, 1942, to the late Almon "Bill" and Ethel Morgan Matson. She graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School in 1959. That same year, she married Joseph Cutler on September 5, beginning a loving partnership that lasted over 65 years. Mary Lou dedicated her career to serving the community as a customer service representative at Drew Insurance Agency in Norwood where she was known for her kindness and professionalism. She retired in 1997 and together with Joe, enjoyed their retirement years in Green Valley, AZ, before returning home to Norwood in 2006.
Mary Lou's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her sons, James (Beth) Cutler and Charles (Sharon) Cutler both of Norwood; her daughter, Beth Cutler of Massena; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mary Lou is also survived by a brother William Matson, Hyattsville, MD; sisters Kathryn (Leonard) Donnelly, South Colton and Linda (Chester) Cota of Norwood; and several nieces and nephews. Mary Lou was pre-deceased by her loving husband Joseph, her parents Bill and Ethel Matson, her sister Helen Sperry, her daughter Michelle Marcantonio, and her granddaughter Sara Cutler.
An accomplished pianist, Mary Lou filled her home with classical piano music and played the organ for many years at the Norwood United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed cooking, playing bridge and spending time with her family and friends. Her warmth, generosity, and love of music will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
