SOUTH COLTON - Stephen Poste passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with family at his side. Steve is survived by his wife of 69 years, Patricia, South Colton; his daughter, Theresa "Terrie" Dunning and her husband Robert, South Colton; his beloved grandchildren, Joshua Poste and his wife Megan, South Colton, Jacob Poste and his wife Dani, Colton, and Cassidy Collins and her husband Chris, Hannawa Falls; and great-grandchildren, Evan Poste, Lucas Poste, McKenzie Fernandes, Waylon Poste, Jeri Poste, Hunter Collins, and Wyatt Collins; his brother Dale Poste, and wife Vicky, Texas; as well as his nieces and nephews. Steve was pre-deceased by his parents, a son, Jerry "Jughead" Poste and his three brothers, Stan, Gary and Phil Poste.
Born in Schenectady, NY on August 11, 1935, to the late Glenn S. and Elva M. (Robinson) Poste. Steve graduated from Port Leyden High School and married Patricia Moore on August 27, 1955. Steve was the owner and operator of J & S Logging, Inc. in South Colton, a business that he started in 1959. For many years, operating it alongside his late son Jerry. Steve was honored with Timbermen of the year in 1998 and Logger of the Year for NYS in 2013. Steve took great pride in running his business and enjoyed working with other loggers, including his grandsons. In his spare time, Steve did enjoy playing golf and going bowling. Steve and Pat were on many leagues and won many bowling trophies. Steve’s family and pets were his most cherished things; he loved sitting around the table exchanging stories from current and past. Steve and Pat were rarely separated and usual drinking coffee with Terrie and Robert. Steve loved spending time with Josh, Jake, Chris, Jerry, and Dale in the garage, along with many others, if his hat started to go sideways, maybe it’s time to go. Steve also loved to watch sports, on TV or live, he rarely missed a sporting event of Cassidy, then was seen at the rink and fields with his great grandchildren. Steve loved his grandchild greatly, helping them in the garage, stealing their snacks, giving them the tightest hugs and fist bumps.
