Burial will be held in the Visitation Cemetery following the services. Friends and family are invited to call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk on Friday from 4-8 pm. Mr. Lavigne passed away on Monday afternoon, June 23, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Kenneth is survived by his sons Tom and Carrie Lavigne, of Massena, John and Sheryl Lavigne of Columbia, SC and his daughter Donna and Brad Mott of Massena, his grandchildren Troy, Bryan, Stephanie, Amber, Heather, Sheridan, Joshua, Samual and Daniel and great-grandchildren Garrett, Addilynn, Declan, Carson, Izzabell, Rowan, Luke and Alexandra, a brother Dale and Rita Lavigne of Norfolk, a sister-in-law Barbara Lavigne of Norfolk, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 61 years, Laura as well as his parents and brothers Lloyd and Robert Lavigne.
Born in Norfolk on June 15th, 1932, to Sylvester and Bernice Casselman Lavigne, Kenneth graduated from Norfolk High School in 1951. He worked as a machinist helper at Alcoa before serving in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1952-1954. As soon as he returned to the North Country, he married Laura Zappia on November 6th, 1954. He went into the family business and worked alongside his father and brothers as an auto mechanic at Lavigne Brothers Garage until he closed the business in 2013 to take care of his ailing wife.
Kenneth loved his family, his job and helping people. He was a devout Catholic and attended mass at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk and St. Andrews in Norwood. He repaired cars for many in Norfolk and the surrounding area and responded to wrecker calls day and night never refusing to provide service to anyone. When asked how much he was owed for minor jobs, he would often respond "I'll catch you next time." It was known about town that a number of men from Norfolk would congregate in the office at Lavigne Brothers Garage early in the morning to visit with him, to tell stories and to solve the world's problems before he started work for the day. He was a volunteer fireman and drove the car for the Norfolk Snails drill team for many years. He also built and raced stock cars in Cornwall and Canton before starting a family. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Memorial donations can be made in Kenneth's name to the Church of the Visitation and memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.buckfuneralhome.com.
