STOCKHOLM – Funeral services for Robert J. Williams, 89, a resident of 337 Stockholm-Knapp's Station Road, Potsdam, will be held at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 7 p.m. with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Mr. Williams passed away late Friday evening, February 7, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Gloria; a son, Scott and Jeannie Williams, Potsdam; a daughter, Robyn Peets and her companion Kevin Grant, Potsdam; four grandchildren, Josh and Nicole Page, Jase Page and his fiancé Meggyn Everhart, Jesse Williams and his fiancé Bethany Ackerman and Zach Williams and his companion Paige McGregor and three great-grandchildren, Elliott, Jayda and Maddy. Robert is also survived by a nephew Mitch Despaw and his two children, Danny and Jake as well as brother and sister in-laws Charles Norman, Mike and Candi Norman and Christine Norman and their families. Robert was pre-deceased by his parents, a granddaughter Azlynne J. Williams and a sister, Shirley Despaw. Born in Loon Lake, NY on July 16, 1935 to the late Joseph and Alta Cole Williams, Robert graduated from Potsdam Central School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. He returned home and married Gloria J. Norman on December 8, 1962. Robert retired from the Village of Potsdam, Public Works Department after several years of service and he previously worked for the Nakoosa-Edwards Paper Company in Potsdam as the shipping supervisor for many years. Robert was an active member of the Potsdam community, he was a member of the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years, where he served as Chief on two separate occasions and at one time, he was also a paid driver. Robert was also a lifetime member of the Potsdam Elks Lodge where he has served for 55 years as well as being the Exalted Ruler. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed hunting, taking daily walks with his beloved dog and he enjoyed bowling in his earlier years. Most of all, Robert enjoyed spending time with his family.
