Norfolk-- Funeral services for 84 year old Ralph A. Monroe of 1569 County Route 38 in Norfolk, will be held Thursday at 11AM at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. Andrew Amyot, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in Visitation Cemetery. Mr. Monroe died Sunday at Massena Memorial Hospital. Surviving are his sons -- Ernest & Elizabeth Monroe;Massena, James & Marcia Monroe;Syracuse and Ralph Monre Jr. and his companion Amy Chase;Potsdam. His daughters -- Irene Monroe;Norfolk, and Lt. Col Martha Monore & her Husband Mike Traualent;Mass. His brothers -- Donald & Bonnie Monroe;Norfolk, Hollis & Antonette Monroe;Norfolk, and Wendell & Janice Monroe;Norfolk. His sisters -- Phyllis & Frank LaDue;Norfolk, Iona Prashaw;Norfolk and Constance Eurto;Norfolk. Twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a daughter-- Susan LaBrake, brothers-- David Monroe, George Monroe Henry Monroe, and Claude Monroe and sisters-- Iantha Jones, Cleodore Porter, and Carol Fleury. Born in Norfolk on July 3, 1924, son of Edward H. and Grace K. Jessmer Monroe, he married Elizabeth Cootware on November 9, 1946 she died October 13, 1993. He served in the Army from 1943 -1945. He worked construction as a heavy equipment operator for Rouses Construction in Gouverneur and later for the Norfolk and Potsdam Paper Mills. He was a communicant of St. Raymonds Church, a member of the Norfolk American Legion, and the VFW of Massena. Condolences may be made online at www.buckfuneralhome.com.
